THE PROJECT HOSTING AND REHABILITATION HOUSE FOR CHILDREN ILL WITH CANCER
The project “Hosting and Rehabilitation House for Children with Cancer” is realized by the Charitable Fund “Zaporuka” due to the financial support of the Italian Association Soleterre ONLUS.
Objectives:
- guarantying an adequate accommodation to children and their families recovered in the hospitals, where they have to share the same bed with low hygienic standards.
- guarantying the right of the child affected by cancer to a number of services (physiotherapy, educational activities, the right to play, art-therapy, psychological consultations) which are necessary for his rehabilitation in a serene environment, outside the hospital.
- ameliorating the standards of life in the National Institute of Cancer, reducing overcrowding and experimenting new protocols in a day-hospital regime.
Beneficiaries and Activities:
The beneficiaries of the night reception will be:
- families coming from different regions with children who can be treated in a day-hospital regime (e.g. radiotherapy treatment). 17 families per year for an average period of 20 days addressing the hospital for radiotherapy treatment;
- new born children and their mothers, for whom the dormitory of the hospital is not a proper accommodation (lack of specific feeding, lack of a kitchen, promiscuity in the rooms). 40 families with new-born babies for an average period of 15 days;
- families and children who suffered amputation or endo-prosthesis, who have logistics problems to live in the department and need a specific program of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. 20 families of amputated or with prosthesis children for an average period of 15 days;
- parents and relatives visiting their recovered children for a few days. 50 parents and relatives of hospitalized children;
- other emergency cases.
The beneficiaries of the day activities will be:
- families hosted in the house;
- children hospitalized at the National Institute of Cancer who can leave the hospital for some hours. 40 children per month visiting the centre from the hospital;
- parents of children hospitalized who look for a psychological, social or legal support or they just want to spend some hours in a serene environment different from the hospital department. 20 parents per month of children recovered in the hospital;
- children and teenager survived after cancer, needing a place for rehabilitation and where to share their experience. 20 survived children and teenagers per month;
- parents of former patients for mutual help groups. 10 parents per month of former cancer affected children meeting for self help and psychological sessions.
Besides:
- beneficiaries of the physiotherapy sessions. 280 children per year receiving physiotherapy support;
- participants to special events, parties and shows organized for children. 300 children participating to special events (parties, cinema, shows);
